Watcher

He waited years for this. He dreamt of the moment that was around that dark corner and mostly questions sprung to mind. How would he feel when it's all over? Would it change anything? Would he still feel that void?

He sits with the other witnesses being checked in at the state prison. No tighter security than that of a prison. Bags are checked. You're being pat down in places your wife never even touches  not even with the best coaxing. While others looked sad and gloomy, he had a calm demeanor. He needed to see this.

He loved fast cars. More so, he loved to drive cars fast.  He was the asshole who cut you off making that all too unsafe lane change then speeds off much faster than is needed for any ordinary citizen with a mundane destination. You often wonder why? Why drive like a maniac? Doesn't he know he could kill someone? He got the answer to the latter.

Rain didn't slow him down. No, not that night. Neither did the yellow light which he was too far away to ever catch. Ignoring the lights purpose he threw some weight on the accelerator. God, he loved this. The thrill of doing what he thought we were all scared to do and step up to take life by the balls. He was too fixed on the high that he never saw her coming. A loud crunching of metal like a soda can being fired into a wall by a grenade launcher.

The voices of the rescue workers is what he heard first, being loaded into a ambulance. Before the doors shut he caught a glimpse of the lifeless body in the mangled remains of her car.

He got off with a plea from the District Attorney but that didn't help. He never got behind the wheel of a car again but that didn't help. He begged for forgiveness from her husband but that did't help. He drank and swallowed every drug the therapist gave him but nothing could help.

He gets his visitor pass and is herded with the rest down a corridor into a room full of cheap plastic chairs. They sat row by row facing a large glass window. On the other side was a table resembling something of a cross with two supports for arms with straps. All kinds of medical equipment made for the opposite of what usual equipment of it's kind is intended for lay next to it.

The deputies lead in a skinny sickly looking man covered with tattoos and the look of false confidence. The man wanted to play the tough guy image to the end.  As they strap the man in, suddenly the toughness starts to disappear. The man looks at glass through the window, afraid of what's to come. The man locks eyes with him.

He took a life but he couldn't face it. Maybe seeing one taken from this earth will give him some sort of clarity. The tubes start to fill with a death cocktail heading into the prisoner's veins.  The prisoner tries to fight it but like a fly caught in a web, slowly succumbs to the death that awaits him. He looks on hoping, searching but long after the prisoner is gone, the void is there. The deputies usher them out.

He walks down the dark hallway in tears. Not from seeing a life being extinguish but because he knows no matter what he does he can't fill that void. He can't bring the life, he wrongfully took, back.

And nothing will help.

My Top 5 Films Of 2011

Just for kicks and maybe some enlightenment for some people, here are my five films you got to see from 2011. There are a couple that may have made my list but I personally haven't seen yet like The Descendants, The Artist, and Shame but I'm just going off what I've seen.

1. Midnight In Paris
Written and Directed by the great Woody Allen, this film is my hands down favorite. It captures a pure magical feeling when you see it that I haven't felt since watching movies as a kid. Just brilliantly done.

2. Bridesmaids

If you haven't heard about or seen this movie, you must be stuck on a deserted island(In that case I'll try to send help and a blu-ray copy of this movie). Everything about this movie was hilarious. I have loved and followed Kristen Wiig for many years and it's so nice to see her get her due. She is the funniest woman on the planet! Also I was surprised how cross-gender appealing it was. I too was a little nervous this was gonna be a chick flick but it's far from it. It's just perfect!

3. Drive

Despite the over the top cheesiness of The Notebook, I am still a huge fan of Ryan Gosling and his superb acting ability. With Drive he shows that even if your character is pretty silent you can still speak volumes. While there are some parts I would change this movie mostly hit the mark. I did want to see more badass violence but maybe there's something wrong with me but the opening sequence alone is worth the watch.

4. Moneyball

There isn't much to say about this movie other than the fantastic true story it's based on. The fact that someone wanted to flip the recruiting game of baseball on its head brings joy to my rebellious side. It also has fantastic performances by Brad Pitt and Jonah Hill.

5. Melancholia

While this film might not be for everybody, I loved it. The most stand out thing about this film besides Kirsten Dunst at her best is how beautiful it was shot. Some of the shots in this film are just breathe taking especially the opening sequence. If you must see it don't expect to leave on a happy note but then again read the title.

So there you go, if you haven't seen any of these you can take my word on it!

A Whole Year In A Single Post.

Well hello blog!

Long time no see. It's been almost been one full year since I've updated you and boy has a lot changed. First everything from my professional life to my love life has turned inside out. I am still hell bent on being a writer if it kills me but I think I may have a knack for making movies. Also probably gonna be the biggest change, I am planning to uproot my life and move to Tinsel Town, USA.

I could get into all the juicy details of the make ups and break ups of the past year but really it's the same song just being played to a different beat. I'm still struggling trying find a place to tell my stories. Of course, most of the time I'm the only one thats standing in my way.

It would be easy to put the blame on my parents, the economy or anything else for me being in the predicament I'm in but the stubbornness in me knows that would be all too easy. I have to face the facts that I'm to blame. After all it was me who decided to drop out of high to pursue a music career. It was me who was too proud to back down from a unfair employer. It's me trying to figure how to strum up enough money to move out of a place I love.

There is some silver lining to this dark, grey, and sometimes hopeless cloud. I screen a short film in front of a real audience. I even got to introduce and screen others I worked on, also. And hopefully shortly, back for the internet's pleasure Starfighters Unlimited will be back for a second season.

So like my life, this year has had few moments of jubilation and far more frequent moments of self loathing desolation.

Here's to 2011!

P.S.

Sorry for the rather sad post but just want to get it off my chest and look forward to the new year.

New Year, Same Struggles.

Hello there!

I know it has been that long since I updated this. Just have been very busy but seeing how it's a new year, I figure I could at least toss my blog a bone. I do intend to start posting at least once a week again. Now where to begin.

Not a lot has change since we last spoke. I am still trying to find my place in this world. Still trying to kick my comic career off, which is fledgling at best. I really wish I would've not slept through my art class. I just never was talented at drawing, though I would spend all my time in the other classes drawing blueprints to starships. If only I could draw, my comic career would be spiking!

It seems that most artists want their $150 page rate and won't take a risk in becoming a partner. Which I somewhat understand. It takes them a lot longer to draw than us to write. As you browse through the forums in DeviantArt, almost all the job postings are for comic book artists, listed by comic writers like me.

It just seems in everything I do, I will have to spend large sums of money to get anywhere

But then again I did find an awesome cartoonist to partner with to start a webcomic series with that you can find here:

So maybe there's hope!

Enough of me ranting.

Happy New Year(28 days later)!

PS Dom the Dominator is on hiatus for the time being.
